Top 10 CPU Overheating Solutions

CPU Overheating problem is one thing that most of the computer users face. There are several causes for CPU Overheating. Below are some of the effective solutions to considerably solve CPU overheating.
How to Solve CPU Overheating

1. Stop Overclocking your CPU
CPU Overclocking is a good concept. These days the manufacturers of CPU do give importance to overclocking. But rarely people notice that overclocking can actually increase the heat of the processor. Overclocking must be only tried when you have perfect cooling system in your computer, without which its like breeding a Polar Bear in Sahara Desert ( The world’s hottest desert).

2. Make sure your Heat Sink is placed properly above the processor

People tend to make this mistake too frequently, not all CPU has feature that will warn if you have not placed the heat sink properly. But guess what you can feel the difference within minutes. The processor gets over heated and the CPU will restart often.

3. Clean the Processor fan, Heat Sink and other peripherals

Dust is the first villain of electronic devices. No matter in how good dust proof room you are in, your CPU fan and heat sink would catch up a pile of dust. This is totally unavoidable. However you can clean the CPU in a frequent basis. A clean CPU will increase the air flow to the processor and reduce the CPU temperature to normal.

4. Use High Speed fans

THE CPU Fan must atleast spin at a rate of 3000 RPM, inorder to ensure good cooling for a normal PC. Older CPC Fans range from around 2500 RPM to higher rate. One problem that CPU fan are probe to is the brushes in CPU Fan wear out with time, this will produce a strange noise. Some would have noticed their CPU fan making noise when computer starts and later the noise goes off. This is due to the brushes wear out problem.

5. Use CPU Heat Sink Paste in the processor

To those who don’t know what is a CPU Heat Sink Paste, its a glue like Silicon compound that is applied in between the Processor and the Heat Sink to increase the heat flow. The thermal paste wears out in time, and you need to apply new coat of paste in a frequent interval.

6. Make sure your dint restrict the speed of CPU fan

The speed at which the CPU fan should rotate can be controlled by specifying the voltage given to it. The fan speed can be restricted in the BIOS or through softwares. You can either increase the CPU fan speed or reduce it (See Fan Speed software to control fan speed and temperature) . However my advice is to leave the option unaltered as long as the fan rotates in the speed it is designed for.

7. Use Additional Cooling Units

A good gamer is not one who only chooses the best processor and Graphics Unit, but also one who protects it by adding a suitable cooling unit. These days you get liquid cooling units for a cheaper price. Consider using any of these to keep your CPU temperature normal.

8. Check your SMPS

As I mentioned earlier supplying a lower voltage to the CPU may reduce the CPU fan speed, SMPS power unit may be damaged sometimes, giving a lesser voltage than the actually required amount. So check your SMPS for normal Voltage Supply. There are two symptoms of this , Firstly the CPU restarts often and secondly you can notice your Fan Speed going down.

9. Use proper ventilation in your room

Last but not least, use proper ventilation in your room, especially if you are not in an air conditioned room. In a Non-AC room make sure you keep atleast one window open, else either you or your computer will die of Carbon dioxide chocking.

10. Shut down your computer atleast two hour a day

Be in whatever field you are, and for whatever purpose you use the computer, make sure you leave it shut down for atleast 2 to 3 hours a day.
